Mobile’s city council has approved a lease agreement for Hank Aaron Stadium with the Mobile Sports and Entertainment Group. The company is known for putting on the Thriller Night of Lights and the Christmas Night of Lights at the Hank. They beat out a competing group from Mississippi that was promising to bring another minor league baseball team to the stadium. The vote was unanimous.
The Mobile SEG plans on using the stadium to host public events like concerts, high school baseball, and college baseball. The Night of Lights events would also presumably continue.
Hank Aaron Stadium was the long-time home of the Mobile BayBears. The team relocated to Madison after the 2019 season. The BayBears won 4 league titles during their time at the Hank. Despite being relatively successful on the field, the team struggled to maintain fan support and their games suffered from poor attendance.
The Christmas Night of Lights is currently running at Hank Aaron Stadium. In addition to the lights, the event features a Santa Village on the weekends.
