The House of Representatives met last night to discuss their next step in the impeachment inquiry of President Trump. Sources say they will unveil at least two articles of impeachment: abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. A third charge, obstruction of justice, has been floated as well.

The abuse of power charge stems from the core subject of the impeachment inquiry. Democrats in Congress alleged that the president attempted to extort the president of Ukraine into digging up dirt on former Vice President Joe Biden in exchange for aid money already approved by Congress. President Trump has also been accused of dangling a White House meeting in exchange for political dirt.

The obstruction of Congress charge comes from the fact that the president has instructed his administration not to cooperate with congressional subpoenas. Several witnesses that have been called by Congress have not shown up, including acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney.

Most pundits believe the president will be impeached by the House of Representatives. However, 67 votes would be needed to convict the president in the Senate and remove him from office. Republicans control the Senate, holding a majority of seats. President Trump is expected to be acquitted in the upper chamber.

Both votes are expected to fall along party lines, with Democrats supporting impeachment and removal, while Republicans will oppose the measures. With presidential elections looming in November of next year, the American people will have their say on the matter soon.
