Tropical Storm Dorian continues to churn in the Atlantic. The latest updates have Dorian’s projected path aiming straight towards Florida. It is still too far out to be sure, but residents of the sunshine state should start to take notice.
As of 5:00 AM AST, Dorian was packing winds of 50 mph. It is currently battering the Windward Islands and continues its march westward. The storm is moving WNW at 13 mph.
While Dorian is expected to strengthen, it may or may not reach hurricane strength before nearing Florida. Land interaction, dry air, and wind shear could deter its growth. Regardless of the storm’s strength, heavy rains and storm surge will be a problem.
If the storm hits Florida, it would occur sometime around the Labor Day weekend. This could potentially lead the storm into the Gulf of Mexico.
