An arrest was made this weekend in the mass shooting at Ladd Peebles Stadium. Deangelo Parnell turned himself in Saturday morning and was charged with 9 counts of attempted murder. Parnell is a student at Leflore High School, which was playing a game against Williamson when the shooting occurred.
The shooting occurred near the end of the Leflore-Williamson football game. A fight broke out, and security footage shows Parnell pulling out a gun and shooting indiscriminately.
Six of the victims of the shooting have been released from the hospital. As of Saturday night, 3 remained hospitalized. Fortunately, no one was killed in the incident.
Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson has called for stricter protocols at football games. He stated that we need to get guns out of the hands of our youth. Mobile Police Chief Lawrence Battiste believes some adults may have known something was going to happen at the game and urged them to come forward ahead of time to help prevent tragedies.
