Gunfire erupted at Ladd Peebles Stadium Friday night, leaving 10 people shot and 2 arrested. The incident occurred at the Leflore-Williamson high school football game. Witnesses say a fight occurred in the stands before the game ended, and the shooting occurred following the game’s conclusion.

The victims ranged in age from 15-18. All 10 were taken to area hospitals. Five of the victims were in critical condition, but their injuries were not considered life-threatening. Six of the 10 victims were shot directly. One victim had a seizure shortly after the incident.

Mobile Police have 2 people in custody. Thus far, they are just being questioned and it is not confirmed if they are the shooters.

Fights at high school football games are common, but mass shootings of this level are rare in Mobile County. Mobile Police Chief Lawrence Battiste called the incident unacceptable and questioned why young people were bringing violence to public events. He went on to promise the Mobile Police Department will be more aggressive in rooting out juvenile violence.
