A new poll commissioned by Baldwin County businessman Dean Young offers further bad news for proponents of the toll bridge over the Mobile River. The latest poll shows 79% of Alabamians oppose tolls on interstate highways. A previous poll commissioned by Young showed 77% of people in Mobile and Baldwin County opposed the tolls.

The poll was conducted by the independent research firm, WT&S Consulting. Approximately 1,600 Alabama residents were surveyed. The poll’s margin of error is 3.21%.

The toll fight has gotten ugly in recent weeks. Local news outlets were kicked out of a meeting with Alabama Governor Kay Ivey for asking too many questions about the subject. Both Governor Ivey and ALDOT director John Cooper have gotten testy when answering questions about the project.
