The trial for Chikesia Clemons, whose arrest video at a Saraland Waffle House went viral, begins tomorrow. Clemons was previously found guilty in municipal court on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. That decision was appealed, and now Clemons will face a jury trial.
In April of 2018, Clemons showed up to the Waffle House located on 158 in Saraland, allegedly drunk. According to Saraland Police, she brought alcohol into the store. After a disagreement with the employees of the store, Clemons became disorderly.
After the police arrived, the situation escalated. Officers tried to get her to leave the restaurant, but she refused. The officers then attempted to arrest her, and in the scuffle, her top came off. The scuffle was caught on camera and posted on the internet, igniting a huge controversy.
In the following weeks, numerous protests were staged outside of the Waffle House. Civil rights activist Al Sharpton even showed up as the case drew national attention. While things have calmed down over the past few months, tensions are sure to mount again as the trial begins.
It’s going to be funny if the case gets returned to the original court. And let’s be clear, SHE requested to appeal it. She was found GUILTY in Municipal Court.
