A record number of people in Alabama are currently employed. According to the Department of Labor, the Alabama workforce stands at 2.17 million as of July 2019. Only 75,000 people remain unemployed, which is a record low for the state. Year-to-year, the state gained over 57,000 workers in July.

The unemployment rate stands at 3.3%, down from 3.5% in June. According to Labor Secretary Fitzgerald Washington, Alabama’s job growth has outpaced the national rate for six of the first seven months of 2019. Record growth in leisure and hospitality, motor vehicle manufacturing, and computer systems design have spurred Alabama’s labor expansion.
