Top 5 Things Saraland Needs

Saraland is a city on the rise. The past few years have seen tremendous development. While the city continues to grow, there are some elements that could use improvement. Here are the top 5 things Saraland needs to develop over the coming years.

Shopping

Saraland needs more shopping options. The city is bristling with restaurants and gas stations, but it lacks the shopping district to draw in consumers to fill those other businesses. Locals will not hesitate to vent their frustration at having to travel all the way to west Mobile to buy something. Some areas that could use particular attention include clothing, electronics.

Outdoor Activities

Saraland has seen a lot of development, and more is expected in the coming years. However, the city still boasts of spectacular natural beauty. With its prime location right next to the delta, numerous outdoor activities are just waiting to be developed.

The city could use a bigger boat launch. Just look to Live Oak Landing in Stockton as a good example. More hiking trails and campgrounds, like those at Chickasabogue Park, would be a welcome addition. Disc golf courses make for fun outdoor activities as well.

Bowling Alley

A bowling alley has long been on the wishlist for Saraland residents. Unfortunately, building one is a very expensive venture. As Saraland grows, this option should become more palatable for developers. A setup like the Eastern Shore Lanes would be a dream.

Movie Theater

While a bowling alley would be great, not everyone is into bowling. However, you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who doesn’t like movies. A movie theater is something Saraland has lacked for decades. For years, residents of north Mobile County have had to travel to Mobile or West Mobile just to see the latest release. A movie theater would serve Saraland and the surrounding area well.

Pool

This entry is the biggest head-scratcher on the list because it probably should have been done already. Saraland installed a splash pad last year next to the police station, leaving many to wonder why they didn’t install a pool instead. There was already a splash pad right next door in Satsuma. Bay Minette has a wonderful pool complex that could have served as a template. As the city itself can develop this, it will hopefully happen in the coming years.
