For the first time in school history, the Saraland Spartans are ranked #1 in 6A. Saraland defeated Andalusia 42-20 in its opener, while previous #1 Pinson Valley fell in Week 1 to Hewitt-Trussville. The Spartans will travel to BC Rain for their Region 1 opener on Friday.
Saraland has been quite successful in the program’s short history. The Spartans have already played for the state title twice, though they came up short both times. Saraland fell to Clay-Chalkville in 2014 and lost to two-time champs Pinson Valley last year.
One other local school joins Saraland in the top ten this week, the Blount Leopards. Blount opened their season with a 38-6 rout of rival Vigor High School.
