Mobile County is under a heat advisory until 7:00 PM on Tuesday. A deadly combination of high heat and humidity is blanketing the Gulf Coast. Heat-related illnesses are a threat under current conditions. Those that most work outside are advised to take breaks and keep hydrated.

A heat advisory is issued when temperatures and heat indexes are expected to reach a certain level, usually over 100 degrees. Advisories can be issued for lower temperatures earlier in the season. The current heatwave is expected to last the next couple of days. Low temperatures will only reach around 78 degrees.

Extra precautions must be taken during a heat advisory. If possible, any strenuous activity that must be done outside should be done early in the morning or late in the evening. If you must work outside in the heat of the day, drink plenty of fluids and take breaks. Wear light-colored and loose-fitting clothing. Watch for signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. If you believe someone is showing signs of a heat stroke, you should immediately call 911.
