An attack on a wedding in Kabul Afghanistan has left 80 people dead. The attack occurred on Saturday, initially killing 63. The Associated Press reports that an additional 17 people later died of their injuries sustained in the suicide bombing.

The attack was carried out by an Islamic State affiliate in Afghanistan. The war-torn country has seen 32,000 people killed in the last decade. The country has been embroiled in conflict since a 2001 invasion led by the United States after the terrorist attacks of 9-11.

Negotiations continue between the US and the Taliban, the group that ran the country prior to the 2001 invasion. The Taliban want the remaining 20,000 foreign forces in the country to be removed. The US and its allies worry that as soon as they depart, the Taliban will attempt to take over the country.

Afghanistan is currently split between the foreign-backed federal government and the Taliban. The conflict has devolved into a stalemate, forcing both sides to the table. The US and its allies have now been fighting in the country for 18 years.
