A plane carrying retired Nascar driver Dale Earnhardt Jr and his family rolled off the end of the runway Thursday afternoon. Earnhardt was taken to Johnson City Medical Center for minor injuries. No one on board was seriously injured.
The crash occurred around 3:40 PM at the Elizabethton Airport in Tennessee. The Cessna Citation rolled off the end of the runway and caught fire. Emergency crews quickly responded to the crash and the local sheriff’s department urged the public to avoid the area.
Dale Earnhardt Jr retired from Nascar in 2017. He finished his racing career with 26 Cup Series wins. Earnhardt Jr won the Daytona 500 twice, in 2004 and 2014. He is the son of legendary Nascar Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Sr, and grandson of Nascar driver Ralph Earnhardt.
