Hurricane Dorian continues to plague the southeast. After devastating the Bahamas for several days, the storm is now taking aim at the Carolinas. Dorian is already responsible for at least 20 deaths in the Bahamas.
The hurricane is expected to hug the coast as it continues its northward trek. It could make landfall in the Carolinas on Thursday or Friday. Both states should expect the worst even if the eye remains over water.
Dorian will not linger too long over the southeast going forward. After slowing down over the Bahamas, the storm has picked up speed and is moving north at 8 mph. While it might graze the coast, it is not expected to move too far inland. Forecasts have the storm ultimately turning back into the Atlantic and moving out to sea.
As always, the most dangerous aspect of the storm will be the storm surge. Dorian’s maximum winds are currently at 110 mph, making it a category 2 storm. While this is far below where the storm peaked, it is still nothing to scoff at. However, storm surge and flooding are the main threats with all hurricanes, and Dorian will be no exception.
