Bernie Takes Nevada

Bernie Sanders wrapped up another primary win last night in the Nevada Caucuses. The win puts Sanders ahead in the national delegate count, surpassing Pete Buttigieg. He has now won two states in a row outright, and he had the most votes in Iowa as well.

In a statement, Senator Sanders touted his multigenerational and multiracial coalition. He said they were not only going to win Nevada but would sweep over the country.

With a second straight win, the mainstream media can no longer ignore Bernie Sanders’s frontrunner status. He has taken the lead in national polls and is also winner several Super Tuesday state polls. His campaign is beginning to pull away from the pack.

While he is now clearly the frontrunner, the race is not over yet. Senator Sanders will be tested in the next primary state, South Carolina. The southern states have a large African American voting bloc and Sanders struggled with them in 2016. Former Vice President Joe Biden has been polling well with African Americans, which could help pull him back into the race as we enter more diverse states.

South Carolina is next, but candidates are already looking past that to Super Tuesday, which falls on March 3rd. A huge chunk of delegates will be chosen that day, including over 400 in California. Senator Sanders is currently leading there, and last night’s win should help solidify his position.
