The summer heat is taking its toll on our local schools. Satsuma High School had to close earlier this week due to a broken air conditioner and wet floors. Now three other schools in Mobile County are battling AC problems: Leflore, Blount, and Baker High School.
According to Fox 10 News, Baker High School had to close one of its three freshman building, which affected about 20 classrooms. School officials say a part needed to be replaced, and they hoped to have the AC fixed by Thursday.
Mobile County school officials say a lightning strike knocked out about two AC units at Leflore. Students there were moved to the gym temporarily to escape the heat. Four classrooms were without AC on Wednesday.
The next two days will offer some relief from the heat as a cold front moves through the area. While the temperatures will not drop significantly, the humidity is expected to decline. Unfortunately, the humidity returns this weekend along with more summer showers.
