Saraland Police were called to the scene of a shooting at the 1100 block of Joaneen Drive. Fox 10 News reports there are three injuries in the incident. All three were taken to University Hospital and are in stable condition.

The incident stemmed from a fight involving the three victims. There are no other suspects in the shooting on Joaneen Drive. As of this writing, none of the victim’s names have been released.

Shootings are fairly rare in Saraland. The city boasts a low violent crime rate, approximately 3.48 per 1,000 residents. Additionally, Safewise listed Saraland as the 30th safest city in Alabama for 2020.

The nation as a whole saw a slight dip in crime during the coronavirus lockdown due to fewer people being out and about. However, cases of domestic violence increased during the same period. Those trapped in a troubled home had nowhere to go.

The riots and looting following the death of George Floyd brought a quick end to the quiet period. Subsequently, police have faced defunding efforts by some seeking reform. Crime has been up in the weeks since, mostly in the nation’s larger cities.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more info comes in.
