Saraland has released its school plan for the 2020-2021 school year. Parents have been anxious to see what school would be like this year as the coronavirus is still ravaging the country. Alabama has been averaging over 900 cases a day for the past week.

How To Register For School In Saraland

Saraland schools mail a Snapcode to all returning students. It will be used for online registration. The code will be used to register at www.saralandboe.org/registration. More information about registration and the school’s coronavirus plan can be found there.

Saraland will offer both traditional on-campus learning and remote learning online. Alabama outlined a similar plan in its statewide school plan. Parents will be able to choose which form of learning they want for their children during the online registration process. Those seeking additional help can call 251-375-5420 or email the school system at [email protected].

Students who are new to Saraland schools need to contact the enrolling school registrar. They will then begin the registration process and choose their learning environment.

Saraland released their plan on Monday. The following day, both the Education Secretary Betsy Devos and President Donald Trump voiced their opposition to remote learning. The president said that both parents and students wanted to return to school.

The Risks In Reopening Schools

Experts have noted both the psychological and educational dangers in keeping children out of school too long. Most children have had limited social interaction. There has been no school and virtually no entertainment available.

On the flip side, health experts have warned that opening schools without the proper precautions could cause the pandemic to worsen. The US is already averaging around 50,000 new cases of Covid-19 a day,. This figure is higher than the peaks we reached in April. Dr. Anthony Fauci, who served on the president’s coronavirus task force, has stated that we could skyrocket to 100,000 cases a day if we don’t get the virus under control.

Given the danger that remains, the Saraland school plan seems to be exercising the right amount of caution. The state put a lot of time and money into acquiring a remote learning curriculum for students. This gives parents the ability to make the right choice for their children.

What Will The Fall Bring?

The fall is likely to be a stressful time for everyone. The cold and flu seasons are right around the corner. Hospitals are already under strain, and this could push some to the breaking point.

The faculty of schools are going to have the difficult task of trying to maintain a healthy environment at a time of great risk. This is especially difficult for young children. Schools have the potential to be super spreaders.

Parents who decide to send their kids to traditional school should be prepared for frequent closures. Outbreaks are a strong possibility. Flexibility will be crucial, as we are in unknown territory at the moment.
