A 17-year-old girl spent her Valentine’s night in jail after a road rage on Moffett Road in Semmes. Daveniece Jones was arrested for stabbing a man with a large knife multiple times. She has been charged with first-degree assault.
According to Fox 10 News, witnesses say Jones was driving recklessly for several miles down Moffett Road. She was weaving in and out of traffic and using the turn lane to pass multiple cars. The trouble started when she tried to pass a blue Ford F-150.
The driver of the pickup truck started to follow Jones. He attempted to get her to stop by cutting her off himself. Jones ultimately stopped and parked in a turning lane. The driver of the truck stopped as well, and that is where the assault occurred.
Witnesses say Jones stepped out of the car with what appeared to be an 8-inch butcher knife. She spoke with the driver of the truck for a brief few moments before stabbing him. The victim suffered five wounds to the chest and was left with life-threatening injuries.
First-degree assault is a Class B Felony in Alabama. Jones could face between 2 and 20 years in prison and up to $30,000 in fines. Her driver’s license could potentially be revoked. Because a deadly weapon was used, Jones could face a minimum mandatory sentence.
