MAWSS To Raise Rates

If you live in Mobile, your water bill will be going up again next year. The Mobile Area Water and Sewage System board approved a rate hike plan yesterday that will raise resident’s bills over the coming years. The vote count was 6-1.

According to WKRG News 5, a family of four would see their bill increase about $2.91 a month next year. Rates would then increase by 6.5% in 2021, and 4% in each of the next two years.

Rate increases are nothing new to MAWSS customers, as they have gone up at least 5% in each of the last 8 years. Officials say the increases are needed for infrastructure work and maintenance issues.
