Another day of rainfall paired with rising rivers has led to road closings in Saraland. All streets east of the railroad tracks on Bayou Sara are closed. According to the Saraland Police Department, officers will be patrolling the area to keep an eye on the flooding.
Police advised all non-resident drivers to obey the barricades and avoid high water areas. They cautioned that unknown dangers could lurk below the water’s surface. As little as 6 inches of water can reach the bottom of most passenger cars. A foot of water can float a car, and 2 feet of water will carry away most cars.
Flooding has been a concern for much of the week. Heavy rains in the northern part of the state have drained down the river system to the delta. Moderate showers have peppered the area over the past week as well, exacerbating the situation.
The high waters have forced the closure of boat launches in Saraland and Satsuma. Cliff’s Landing also saw significant flooding. Over this weekend there have been reports of some homes flooding. The road closings in Saraland are just the latest incident.
